The Tsitsikamma forests on the Garden Route in South Africa is home to the Misty Mountain Reserve. This area is renowned for spectacular scenery: forest, mountain, ocean – here you really have it all. The Misty Mountain Reserve offer premier lodge accommodation in a number of self-catering wooden chalets, and you can choose between luxury, superior and family chalets. The chalets are serviced daily and are equipped with DSTV, a safe, bar fridge, heaters, linen, towels, hair dryers and fans. Enjoy mountain bike trails, paths for joggers, fishing in one of two dams (bring your own bass/fly rods), walks in pristine forest along clearly marked routes, or picnics in the forest (order a delicious picnic basket from reception) or relax next to the swimming pool. Adventure activities in the area include a “tree top tour” and the world’s highest bungee jump from the Bloukrans Bridge.   

Misty Mountain Lodge is in the Misty Mountain Reserve in the Tsitsikamma region of the Eastern Cape of South Africa. If you are not from South Africa you will most likely need to hire a vehicle from Temba Car Hire in Cape Town and then drive to the Tsitsikamma district. Temba Safari will arrange all your accommodation along the Garden Route of South Africa.

The nearest lodge to us is the Tsitsikamma Lodge which is only 2 km from Storms River Bridge and which also offers good accommodation just next to the N2. Further to the east is Port Elizabeth where you can stay in hotels such as the Humewood Hotel or the Paxton Hotel.

East London is also known as the Buffalo City and here Misty Mountain Lodge recommends the Regent Hotel and the King David Hotel. Both these hotels offer excellent accommodation in four or five star facilities.

The area north east of East London is known as the Wildcoast. The Wildcoast and the Tsitsikamma region have some of the world's most beautiful coastlines and we recommend various hotels and lodges which you can visit after a few nights at Misty Mountain Lodge. This area was previously known as the Transkei. Mazeppa Bay Hotel is in the same region as the Kob Inn Hotel. Further north is Coffee Bay and Hole-in-the-Wall Hotel which is a basic hotel with self-catering ( self contained ) accommodation units for families at Hole-in-the-Wall.

Port St Johns was for many years a famous desitination for South African families during the December holidays. After lodges such as Misty Mountain made the Tsitsikamma region well known, Port St Johns lost much of its fame. However, lodges such as Umngazi River Lodge and N'taba River Lodge are slowly but surely once again enticing these visitors.
The Block B rooms of the Merino Inn Hotel look out over the garden and offer private parking and accommodation for three people.If you want to visit the Freestate province of South Africa you may want to overnight at Umtata Savoy Hotel in Mthatha or Umtata, the former capital of the Transkei. In the Freestate you will enjoy Sangiro Lodge Bloemfontein as their log cabins will no doubt remind you of the luxury log chalets at Misty Mountain Lodge. If you would like to include some game viewing Bains Game Lodge offers self-catering ( self contained ) or hotel accommodation next to the N1 at Nelson Mandela exit at Bloemfontein. Shakawe in the north-west of Botswana on the western panhandle of the Okavango Delta is very well known for lodges such as Drotsky's Cabins and Nguma Island Lodge.
Xaro Lodge is a sister lodge of Drotsky's Cabins on the western side of the Okavango Delta. Xaro lodge is an adult only destination in a beautiful setting in a real birding paradise.
Shakawe in the north-west of Botswana is best known among birders and fishermen who visit places such as Nguma Island and Drotsky's Cabins to enjoy the barbel run or the annual migration of carmine bee-eaters.
